\n\tPro Musica together with Silpakorn Summer Music School (SSMS) presents a concert entitled "Gone With The Woodwind".  This special event will bring together leading wind players in Thailand and students who<\/div>\n
\n\tparticipated in the recent SSMS summer camp.  This special woodwind ensemble will be under the direction of world renowned British conductor, Mr. Leo Phillips. Before moving to Thailand, Leo Phillips was leader of various European orchestras such as the Chamber Orchestra of Europe and the London Philharmonic Orchestra.  At present, he is instructor of strings and concertmaster of the SSMS Orchestra.<\/div>\n
\n\t <\/div>\n
\n\tThe highlight of this concert will be Mozart's "Gran Partita".  Mozart is known throughout the world as one of the most famous classical composers.  He composed over 600 works.  This "Gran Partita" is special because he composed it for a band of 12 winds with single a double bass. No other composer had composed for this type of ensemble before.  This beautiful music was chosen as the soundtrack for the<\/div>\n
\n\tmovie "Amadeus" where Salieri jealously explains the genius of Mozart's work.<\/div>\n
\n\t <\/div>\n
\n\tThe concert also includes a romantic period wind ensemble piece, "Petite Symphonie" composed by French composer, Charles Gounod. Gounod was most famous for his vocal and operatic works.  He is mostly<\/div>\n
\n\tfamous in the modern world for the piece "Ave Maria" in which he added his own gracious melody to a prelude for piano by Bach.  In "Petite Symphonie",  Gounod composed a mini symphony where he only employs nine different instruments but can create a sheer orchestral sound.<\/div>\n
\n\t <\/div>\n
\n\tThe concert's opening piece will be Three Shanties for Woodwind Quintet (performed by 5 leading Thai wind players who also coached students at the SSMS) by the  20th Century composer, Malcolm Arnold<\/div>\n
\n\twho is most famous for music for wind instruments and the use of English folk tunes.  In this piece, he uses melodies of common sailor songs which he rearranged for woodwind quintet in a fun and beautiful way.<\/div>\n
\n\t <\/div>\n
\n\tThe "Gone With The Woodwind" concert is a brand-new project presented by the Faculty of Music, Silpakorn University.  Our purpose is to further the classical music development of Thailand's youth  by giving students the opportunity  to rehearse and play side by side their teachers which also enhances the level of the public performance.<\/div>\n
\n\t <\/div>\n
\n\tThe concert will be held in the auditorium on the 5th floor of the Bangkok Art and Cultural Centre, Pathumwan intersection at 4 p.m. on Sunday 27th  July.<\/div>\n
