\n\t\t\t\tThe Embassy of the Czech Republic in cooperation with BACC –Arts Network Department present the Thai audience the best of what the Czech art scene has to offer in this particular art field. We proudly introduce Mr.Ji\u0159í Slíva, an outstanding Czech cartoonist who has created a distinctive, unique style based on simple but expressive lines. His drawings are very detailed and accurate, each telling a complete story with a few lines. Ji\u0159í Slíva´s work focuses mainly on the illustration of cartoons and books.
\n\t\t\t\t <\/div>\n
\n\t\t\t\tThe exhibition features humorous drawings and lithographs inspired mainly by the theme of cafés, one of Ji\u0159í Slíva´s favorite subjects. Some of his work also features famous people like Franz Kafka. Another major theme for Ji\u0159í Slíva, an active musician, is music, particularly the jazz genre. Come and enjoy the humor of this award-winning artist.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\t\t\tAs part of the “Café Puzzle” Exhibition, the artist, Ji\u0159í Slíva will personally introduce his exhibition at Bangkok Art and Culture Centrewith a short guided tour. He will talk about the inspiration and sources for his graphic art. Following this, 20 art students will work individually to create drawings on an assigned theme. Slíva will work with the students to adjust the theme and technique. The workshop will conclude with a group critique. <\/div>\n
\n\t\t\t\t\t <\/div>\n
\n\t\t\t\t\tThe students are asked to bring your own drawings materials – sketchbooks, pencils, and pens – to the workshop.<\/div>\n

\n\t\t\t\tJi\u0159í Slíva was born in 1947 in Pilsen, Czech Republic and has been a resident of Prague since 1966. After finishing studies at the University of Economics of Prague he worked for eight years as a sociologist. <\/div>\n
\n\t\t\t\t <\/div>\n
\n\t\t\t\tSlíva’s first published drawings appeared in 1972. Since 1979, he has devoted his career full time to cartooning, graphic art, illustration, and painting. He has produced 13 books of cartoons, which have been published in the Czech Republic, Germany, Switzerland, Russia, and France. His drawings have appeared in over 150 books, numerous Czech newspapers, and in international journals such as Die Zeit, Stern, New York Times, Nebelspalter, Die Welt, Los Angeles Times, and Le Monde Diplomatique. In addition to his illustrations, Slíva’s work includes colour lithographs, etchings and oil paintings.<\/div>\n
\n\t\t\t\t <\/div>\n
\n\t\t\t\tJi\u0159í Slíva is a humorist who prefers drawings to words. He has created a distinctive, unique style based on simple but expressive lines. His drawings are very detailed and accurate, each telling a complete story with a few lines. He has repeatedly dealt with three thematic areas. The first of these involves renowned persons from the cultural and scientific world. Slíva's favorites include Franz Kafka and Sigmund Freud. Another major theme for him is jazz and jazz musicians, many of whom he has admired for years. He is a musician as well, playing in his own jazz band. Lastly, many of his prints are dedicated to the realm of wine, coffee, and café life.<\/div>\n
