For the fourth Cinema Diverse, four international films, selected by five acclaimed female Thai directors, will be shown bi-monthly from May &ndash; November 2016.After each screening there will be a post-screening talk and a Q&amp;A session to discuss ideas and thoughts about the film with the directors.&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>\n\t&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>\n\tThe first screening on Saturday 21 May 2016 is <strong>The Pearl Button (Chile \/ 2015)<\/strong> directed by <strong>Patricio Guzm&aacute;n<\/strong> and chosen by <strong>Soraya Nakasuwan<\/strong>, an acclaimed Thai director of <strong>Final Score<\/strong> and <strong>RahtreeSawasdi<\/strong>.<\/div>\n<div>\n\t&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>\n\t<strong>The Pearl Button<\/strong> is a 2015 Chilean documentary film. It was screened in the main competition section of the 65th Berlin International Film Festival where it won the Silver Bear for Best Script. It won the Lumi&egrave;res Award for Best Documentary at the 21st Lumi&egrave;res Awards.<\/p>\n<p>\tThe film is part of a triptych with Nostalgia for the Light and potentially a third film focusing on the Andes, exploring familiar Guzm&aacute;n themes such as memory and the historical past, particularly of that of the history&#39;s &quot;losers&quot; rather than victors, as it documents the settlement of Chile&rsquo;s Tierra del Fuego, including some of the last surviving descendants of the original Alacalufe and Yaghan inhabitants.<\/p>\n<p>\t&ldquo;<strong>The Pearl Button<\/strong> tells the story of the history of Chile and how that history is profoundly intertwined with the ocean. Jemmy Button was a boy from a small island. He was one of the island&#39;s original inhabitants and he was sold in an exchange for a pearl button. The sea holds the voices of the Earth and those that come from outer space. Water receives impetus from the stars and transmits it to living creatures. Water, the longest border in Chile, also holds the secret of a mysterious button that was discovered in its seabed. Chile, with its 2,670 miles of coastline, the largest archipelago in the world, presents a supernatural landscape. In it are volcanoes, mountains and glaciers. In it are the voices of the Patagonian indigenous people, of the first English sailors and also those of its political prisoners. Some say that water has memory.
