“SILPYUPEN” is an educational activity under “Early Years Project”- an Incubating Project for Young Artists organised by Bangkok Art and Culture Centre, operated by Tentacles. The program aims to support new young artists with knowledge on art industry as well as the structure related to the career. Artists will learn a shifting face of art in different era and understand how to embrace changes, social trend or link their ideas to other specific areas. Artists need to adjust themselves, improve their potential and find a new way of work in order to survive and grow in this career.

“Silpyupen” also aims to test the new artists on their readiness to “Pai” or “move on” in this creative industry. The speakers will share their knowledge on career preparation, information gathering and ideas on taxation, credit building and access to social welfare. The new artists will have a clear picture of artist career path or at least understand how to “Yu” or “Survive” in Thai and international art scene.<\/div>\n

A workshop for artists to develop a public speaking and communication skills. Participants will have a chance to sharpen their tongues as well as to set out a self-realization and self-understanding. This workshop is primarily designed to develop public speaking skills that are related to art professions. These include work presentation, stage communication, seminar & talk, media interviews, exhibition opening remarks as well as other tips on speech preparation, body language and overall personalities. <\/div>\n

Collaborative work requires a joint effort and mutual respect on a common idea. The production of each group work is unique and is naturally a battle between the ego and the common idea. Each project unavoidably goes through mutual collaboration in streamlining thinking process, production or other steps. This activity walks the artists through steps in creating group work from a blank canvas to a complete production. The steps include group calling, internal and external affairs management, group discussion on questions like “Why do artists need to register an artist group?”, “What are the benefits to an artist group in terms of power towards the public and private sector?” “What are the benefits for artist group at domestic and international level?”<\/div>\n

5.2 Freelance Must Know: Credibility and Social Welfare <\/div>\n

Artists and other freelance professions are commonly known as “informal employment”. These professions aren’t under social welfare, Old Age Pension, or security pension. The result leads to financial and health insecurity. How can people in these creative professions survive the current insecurity and social limit? This talk introduces you to the whole national welfare system in Thailand as well as tips and tricks on how to access to the public fund, get a bank loan or credit card approved. The talk also talks about taxation structure for these professions as well as other guidelines that will benefit them.<\/div>\n

About Tentacles<\/div>\n
Established in 2014, Tentacles is an art space open to emerging artists, culture professions as well as the pubic to present and shares ideas that shift or drive socio-culture knowledge forward. The initiative is a space for creative experiment that may be in a form of exhibitions, seminars or Artist Residency Program, an art space for Thai and foreign artists to experiment their work.
