Join our special workshop, inspired by Somporn Rodboon’s legacy in curatorial practices and our collaborative efforts to cultivate emerging curators and art practitioners. In partnership with Bangkok Kunsthalle, we’ve designed this workshop to explore site-specific work. The workshop utilizes the concepts of the production of space and spatial perspective to explore the complex relationships between physical space, conceptual space, and social space in the 22nd of July Circle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Bangkok Kunsthalle is located on Maitrichit Road, connected to the \u201c22nd of July Circle,\u201d which King Rama VI commissioned after a major fire in the area and as a memorial for Siam joining the Allies in World War I on July 22, 1917. It is considered Thailand’s first traffic circle and is part of the new road network and urban planning for the outskirts of old Bangkok. A roundabout also signifies a junction where multiple roads converge, similar to the \u201c22nd of July Circle\u201d. This traffic circle connects the Chinese community area with Hua Lamphong and Sala Daeng Field (Lumphini Park area at present), establishing it as a significant commercial district from the past to the present and serving as a diverse community space. The area is home to a wide variety of residents, including the Chinese community, migrant workers, and individuals commonly referred to as vulnerable groups.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Through this workshop aimed at \u201ccultivating\u201d site-specific work approaches, participants will learn from real-life experiences and enhance their curatorial skills. They will explore the space and community, gaining insights into social relations from experts. Importantly, they will have the opportunity to design using the actual space at Bangkok Kunsthalle with Chitti Kasemkitvatana.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
