Bangkok Art and Culture Centre and the Japan Foundation Asia Center present “Mode of Liaisons” exhibition as a part of “Condition Report”, a collaborative art project with curators from Japan and Southeast Asian countries with the objectives to incubate young curators through working in collboration with senior curators. The Condition Report Project is composed of 2 parts of the curatorial works under the main theme “What is Southeast Asia?”. The first part is 4 exhibitions curated by the senior curators in 4 cities: Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur, Manila, and Bangkok to demonstrate their concepts, phenomenons, and contents of contemporary art as well as to employ the exhibition as an opportunity to train young curators. The second part is 14 separated exhibitions curated independently by young curators.
The last version of exhibitions by senior curators is in Bangkok under the title of “Mode of Liaisons”. Curated by senior curator Pichaya Aime Suphavanij, the concept is rooted from biological standpoint selecting the works of art from the senior curators’ previous selections in other cities, and stemming out with the new artworks selected specifically for Bangkok to reach the conceptual whole. Mode of Liaisons aims to look at the meaning which is not only embedded in the artworks, but also the ecosystem in which the artworks are originated. It can be identified as the roots of the artists, the communities where the works were conceived, and the network systems that branch, maintain, and transfer the artworks in relation to time, space, and people. This concept views a work of art as a living organism with appendages that move and adapt the meaning of its existence. Moreover, it aims to explore the essence hidden in the interaction between networks of each different works which can be led to the exploration of further meaningful relationships.
