Thai Charisma: Heritage + Creative Power offers an insightful glimpse into the power of making by Thai artisans and artists who have drawn inspirations from traditional artifacts as they continue to create new expressions responding to their heritage and faith. This art project has developed from the exhibition Thai Transience at Singapore Art Museum in 2012 that was part of Thai Cultural Fest co-organized by the National Heritage Board, Singapore and Fine Arts Department and Office of Contemporary Art and Culture, Ministry of Culture, Thailand. Thai Transience comprised of multidisciplinary practices to display heritage and contemporary as well as secular and religious art in meaningful ways.
Co-organized by the Fine Arts Department, Office of Contemporary Art and Culture, Ministry of Culture and Bangkok Art and Culture Centre, Thai Charisma: Heritage + Creative Power comprises of over 38 heritage objects and new contemporary works by 19 artists. Guest curator of the exhibition, Prof. Dr Apinan Poshyananda, Deputy Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Culture wrote, “Thai Charisma will be an exciting and challenging exhibition for Thai living artists to contemplate and interpret heritage objects from the National collection.
