Hear Here : A Sound Installation Exhibition
In the world teem with rhythms and melodies of lives that have been overriding and forming into the vast ocean of sound, it is quite amazing that we usually fail to notice the importance of sound perception as the aesthetic beauty and the balance of existence. Man was born with the ability to perceive sounds through frequencies, vibrations, and movements surrounding him. But these days we emphasize the importance of sound when it occurs together with another sensory experiences. We watch movies. We go to the concert. We listen to music while we are dining. But we hardly sit still, close our eyes, and allow our auditory perception to be aware of movements and lives through our ears and imagination. The concept of Hear Here experience is whispering to people’s ears to make them perceive the cosmos of sounds encircling them that are the meaningful, the latent, the intruding, and the unheard. The most important aim is to open them to new experiences from the same old sounds that keep striking against us. Sound are here to be heard. And by being heard, such things is contructed. Hear Here exhibition is to portray experiences and stories of sounds that are installed in the given space in order to create the various ways of perception. Artists of this exhibition employ different types of sound to symbolically communicate. Sounds are varied such as the frightening sound, the sound of organs quietly work in our body, the murmur of towns, the roaring to roads or even the sound of place itself that we never attentively listen to like in Bangkok Art and Culture Centre.
The sound per se could be an instrument that assists both in constructing feelings and reasons and in searching for possibility of feelings and reasons concern with human experiences. Hear Here exhibition thus is to amplify the perception of ordinary sounds in extraordinary ways and to make its audience to make an observation, understand and refresh their attitude towards the sounds in daily life. This awareness could form new perception that they, hereafter, can retrieve on their own pertaining to their daily life and sound experiences. - Related units of description
