Belgium and Thailand, two countries geographically and culturally differed. At the first glance, the works shown in this exhibition manifests their differences without a common thread. Although, by juxtaposing artworks together, they reveal a similar approach: the artworks belong to their own culture, their own history. What usually is not explained, are the unspoken that is self-explanatory, this hidden element is precisely what Dialogues seeks to unveil: the symbols, myths and traditional imagery that captured by the artists, who appropriate them, reinterpret them and divert them without our knowledge. Dialogues allows the public to form its own keys to understand the world that is often foreign, in addition to this re-discovery of their own culture.
It is an intention of this project that visitor will naturally reinterpret these symbols according to his own experience. Facing the cultural experience as seen by artists, they will have to consider the meaning of symbols that were believed it is immutable. They will come to think of the new “translations” that art has to offer.
