Light over the Chaophraya
24 June 1932 was the day that changed the course of Thai history forever. The democratic revolution that took place on that day and power struggle between political fractions that followed has widely been discussed. Yet, few documents have thrown the light on the effect of this incident on ordinary Thai lives.
To commemorate 110 year of Pridi Banomyong – the man behind Thai democratic revolution, the Faculty of Communication Arts at Chulalongkorn University and Pridi Banomyong Insititute invite you to “Light over the Chaophraya (Saeg-Sathaa Nue Lam Nam Chaophraya)” – a stage play by the Department of Performing Arts that explores the 1932 revolution through the eyes of Dame Poonsuk Banomyong and her female contemporaries. Detailed accounts of the day provide different perspectives to this historical incidence and how it affected each woman’s life.
