Japanese Contemporary Crafts – Live Performance and Workshop

Date : Sunday 16th and Saturday 22nd January 2011

Along with the exhibition “Contemporary Japanese Crafts”, the Japan Foundation and Bangkok Art and Culture Centre are pleased to invite you to participate in a Live Performance and Workshop by two Japanese artists, Ms. Kasumi Katagiri and Ms. Kyoko Abe on Sunday 16th and Saturday 22nd January 2011 at Bangkok Art and Culture Centre.

• Live Performance of the Japanese Pottery Wheel by Ms. Kasumi Katagiri, a ceramic artist 3 performances/day – 1.30 p.m. / 3.00 p.m. / 4.30 p.m. (20-30 minutes for each performance)

• Workshop “Let’s make a hand-crafted chopstick rest!” by the Japanese artists, Ms. Kyoko Abe and Ms. Kasumi Katagiri
From 1.00 – 5.00 p.m.

A chopstick rest (hashioki) is an important piece of tableware commonly used in Japan to keep the eating surface (the tips) of chopsticks off the table (similar to a spoon rest). They come in various shapes and are usually made from clay, wood, glass, porcelain and other materials
You can make your own unique chopstick rest, by painting hand-crafted clay ware created by Ms. Kasumi Katagiri. The artist/instructor Kyoko Abe will guide you in the creative use of porcelain paints. 200 chopstick rests are available each day!
