GREYHOUND celebrating its 30th Anniversary Restating its stylish and cool simplicity With an exhibition “Basic with a TWIST” to revive the legend of Greyhound Featuring 35 items of distinctive designs

Bangkok, October 26th, 2010: It is very difficult for a brand name to stand the test of time for 30 years. While maintaining its widely-known stylish uniqueness, the brand name never stops reflecting the in-and-out trends. Surely enough, it is equally difficult to impress the old clients and continue to attract new clients. But Greyhound – which is now a popular brand name of ready-to-wear and exquisite dinging experience – continues to stand out in the outfit and food industries. As a matter of fact, Greyhound successfully embodies simplicity, stylishness and uniqueness for the past decades.

Bhanu Inkawat, creative director and founder of Greyhound, says Greyfound was given birth in 1980 with his seed of inspiration to produce a collection of casual wear for new young generations. Co-founded by his three friends sharing the same dreams, Phanu aimed at fulfill the needs of urban residents. Their signature outfits included a pair of jeans and a cotton shirt with chic graphic motifs. Their style – which later became their business policy – could be summed up a statement “We present style, not fashion”. After setting the debut steps, Greyhound never stops impressing both old and new clienteles with stylish fashionable items for teenagers. It is a leading brand name for three decades already indeed.

“To celebrate the 30th anniversary, Greyhound wishes to share multiple impressions from the very beginning to the present days under the concept “Basic with a TWIST”. Simplicity is twisted to allow some room for distinctive designs. The concept is reflected in a book suitable for your collection. It depicts a multitude of photos together with brief captions. In addition, there is an exhibition of 35 items with distinctive designs that will even further highlight the characteristics of Greyhound.”

Greyhound Company Limited was established in 1980 when the founders agreed to produce ready-to-wear for new generations of young men under the brand “Greyhound”. This is the perfect name because greyhound is a kind of dog widely known for its fast movement and activeness – a concise conclusion of new urban lifestyle. Additional line of outfits for women together with leather products and accessories hit the market in 1990.  Then “Playhound”, the new brand with more twisted, funny and experimental design for younger target, was introduced in 2002. Surely enough, Playhound’s main target group was young men and women of 20-28 years who admired the simplicity, fun and modern looks of street fashion. Moreover, Greyhound Company Limited has been selected by Fun Characters International (Thailand) – Thailand’s copyright owner of multiple Disney cartoon characters – to produce a wide range of outfits depicting Greyhound style with Disney cartoon characters. Therefore, the license gives the birth to a new brand name Hound & Friends”.

Greyhound has not limited itself in the fashion industry only, but also extended to another territory – dining industry – successfully. Today Greyhound Café is a very popular restaurant especially among food lovers of all ages. Some regular clients do not need to consult a menu before making their orders. On the contrary, they can utter the names of their favorite dishes with utmost ease. All customers are impressed with the décor of the restaurants, which reflects the restaurant operators’ attentiveness to the finest details. Not only can the customers enjoy savory food, but also admire the uniqueness of dining tables and chairs. Even the waiters’ uniforms are stylish and always pleasant to look at. Greyhound Café is, therefore, one of the most popular hangout venues among urban residents. In fact, it can be said to be a vital component of urban lifestyle.

For the past 30 years, Greyhound cooperated with a multitude of fashion designers. These included Pattree Phakdeebutr, owner of brand name “Erb”; Roj Singhakul, designer and owner of “Issue” fashion house; Munchumart Numbenjapol of “Munchu’s”, Chaichon Savantrat of “Good Mixer”, to name just a few. Greyhound’s circle of friends has also embraced big names of different circles, for instance, Duangrit Bunnag, Chadathip Chutrakul, Supaluck Umpujh, Sakwut Wisethmanee, Wisut Ponnimit, Thaweesak Srithongdee and Thanachai Ujjin (better known as Pod Modern Dog). Their different impressive stories will be shared with the public in the upcoming art exhibition – Thailand’s first art exhibition to be organized by a fashion house. Also introduced is the book featuring different graphic art in never-boring Greyhound style.

The exhibition “Basic with a TWIST” will be organized at Bangkok Art and Culture Center from October 27th to November 5, 2010. It encompasses different stories of Greyhound since the very beginning to the present. On display are 35 items with distinctive designers, for example, a web cardigan from the collection “Dark Dream” inspired by a fancy coat for Halloween. Another attractive exhibit is a crochet top depicting a funny sentence "you can show us the way but we may not follow". A clutch bag for books looks like a hard-cover novel. A Mickey T-shirt from Hound & Friends collection depicts a funny sentence “I don’t know if it’s art but I know I like it” – a world-famous statement by Mr. Walt Disney, the legendary creator of Mickey.
