Artist: Sina Wittayawiroj
Title: Aesthetic Recycling Station

In the contemporary art world, large numbers of artists, creative professionals and art students have been consistently producing artworks. After these artworks have been exhibited and presented, their conditions shift: many are carefully stored to maintain their “art” aesthetics and value, while an increasing number of them are abandoned and discarded as “art garbage”.

Contemporary society is expected to practice recycling, thus it is not inappropriate for a creative individual to transform these “art garbage” into useful objects. The artist visualises beyond the idea of art for art’s sake and considers recreations of damaged or abandoned “art objects” into functional items; so that society may enjoy the practical utilitarian aspect of art, in addition to its visual aesthetics.

Therefore, founding ‘Aesthetic Recycling Station’ where will be arranged within Bangkok Art & Culture Centre (BACC) from March 25th to April 6th, 2014 in order to receive donated ‘art garbage’ and provide an audience a chance to participate in suggesting their guidelines and imagination towards such ‘garbage’. After the donation is over, the project volunteers will re-change and re-create them into useful things, such as a cloth bag, wallet, lamp, chair, etc. And the overall outcome of the project will be re-exhibited in the future.
