“I Cover You!” BACC-BCSCollaborative Community Art Project

Bangkok Art and Culture Centre and Bamboo Curtain Studio join hands with 3C Project, invited eco-friendly artist, Fang-Yi Yang (Fay) to collaborate with the communities along Bangmod canal creating environmental awareness through the art installation in Bangmod Festival, this upcoming December.
The “I Cover You!” BACC-BCS Community Art Project is a collaborativeproject between Bangkok Art and Culture Centre (BACC) andBamboo Curtain Studio (BCS), a studio for resident artists and art managers working on the environment issues for more than 10 years. This project is a collaboration to exchange the resident artists/ art managers between BACC and BCS.
This 2 years special collaborativeproject (2017-2018) aims to promote exchange of the knowledge about art and community programmes as well as to expand the network of art and culture related organisations domestically andinternationally.This year, BACC plays the role as a host for the resident artist and art manager and coordinate to connect them to the communities and the Bangkok-based organisationsthat use art as a tool for community development in Bangkok.
A Taiwanese artist, Fang-Yi Yang (Fay) and an art manager, Chang,Hsiao-ling(Sherry) are invited to work withKing Mongkut's University of Technology Thonburi, 3CProject andBangmod Creative Canal Community Enterpriseon the environment and waste management issue. The processes are divided into 3 phases; survey trip in August, workshop trip in November and festival trip in December 2018. The artist shall showcase her artwork “I Cover You!” (I'll cover you! = I cell cover/ colour you!),in collaboration with local communities during the 3rdBangmod Festival on 8-9 December 2018.
In the 3rd Bangmod Festival, Fay chooses the fence of the cycle way along Bangmod Canal (from TanPaoWittayakarn School to Putthabucha Temple) to display the art work created with the local people.
Single-use plastic bags, which are the major waste from the community’s everyday life shall be collected, cut and weaved into a giant art piece to create awareness about co-living with nature, using the resources carefully and creating less waste. The artist will also provide the workshops to create the art pieces from the trashes during the festival.
This project is partly funded by the Outsiders Factory, a Taiwanese art group and Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Thailandas well as receiving cooperation from private and governmental organisations in Tung KhruDistrict includingBangmod Tan PaoWittayakarn School, Tung Khru’s authorities,Bangkok Biennial, Happy Hub and Can Do Team.
