Thailand is rich in biodiversity, yet is well-known to be the hub and transit country where illegal trafficking of wildlife is prominent.Among them is the slow loris trafficking.Their cuddly appearance has becometheir trap to be this wanted.
Since 2012, Love Wildlife Foundation has collaborated with the DNP to help confiscated lorises, whose situation has only gone worse over years. So far, around 90 lorises (from 14 in 2012) are confiscated at the Water Bird Breeding and Conservation Center in Bang Phra, Chonburi due to illegal possession as pets or photo props.
Bringing together international loris experts, this workshop aims tobrainstorm, also to build knowledge and capacity for government officials, researchers, and people with common interest to tackle this ongoing crisis properly. It is an initiation of a conservation strategy for slow loris, with joint collaboration from major stakeholders, to support future conservation efforts in Thailand.
