The Early Years Project seeks to incubate the talents of next-generation artists and those starting out on their artistic careers. The program offers the opportunity to participate in workshops and various special activities that allow them to sharpen their output and capabilities in a sustained and effective manner. It also establishes connections among the artists, paving the way for conversations and constructive criticism in the future. Upon completion of the project, the organizing committee will select top works from artist presentations as recipients of mobility and residency funding.
For the fourth edition of the Early Years Project, held under the theme “Praxis makes Perfect”, the organizing committee is shining a light on the importance of praxis – a process that leads to discussion, debate, and formation of ideas and knowledge on the artists’ part to fuel their creative process. The process also concerns the opening of the public sphere for artists to communicate and interact with people across society via their art throughout the entirety of the project’s duration.
Artists in the project will gain opportunities to engage in societal storytelling by expressing their thoughts in a creative space and progressing beyond the creation of art for the sake of the end product. Instead, the creative process will seek out the boundaries of artistic possibility, open up new arenas for discussion and criticism, and allow for a free exchange of interests and opinions without any boundaries in form, idea, method, or discipline.
The exhibition is organized by the Exhibition Department, Bangkok Art and Culture Centre.
