Queer Research: A Workshop
By Bangkok Art and Culture Centre (BACC) in collaboration with the International Programme in Communication Design (CommDe) of Chulalongkorn University
10.00 – 16.00 hrs.
COORDINATOR AND LECTURER:
Brian Curtin
The Bangkok Art and Culture Centre (BACC) in collaboration with the International Programme in Communication Design (CommDe) of Chulalongkorn University invite participants for a special workshop organized to accompany BACC’s current exhibition Spectrosynthesis II-Exposure of Tolerance: LGBTQ in Southeast Asia. Queer Research: A Workshop introduces key ideas and debates about research methods with queer-themed aims and also surveys recent examples from the field. These include queer readings of art and visual culture; explorations of hidden histories of LGBTQ; and links between LGBTQ politics and other social movements and theories.
Participants are required to brainstorm a research project stemming from your own interests as related to LGBTQ issues. Through guidance and tutorials, this project is then honed to a potential outcome: curatorial work in exhibition-making, text orthe organizing of symposia. The central aim of Queer Research: A Workshop is to approach research in a ‘pure’ way, and open out possibilities for an ultimate outcome. This ensures a strengthening of participants’ interests without the dictates of a particular discipline in advance, which is a particularly queer concern!
Open to young or aspiring curators, writers or researchers. Full details of the day will be provided to all registered participants.
