PALALAIYAKA LAND
Mekong Sub-region Arts and Culture Research Unit (MAC-MFU)
Baan Huy Hin Lad Nai Community Wiang Pa Pao District, Chiang Rai Province
The PALALAIYAKA LAND exhibition is part of an art research project conducted in collaboration with the Karen hill tribe which live in Huay Hin Lad Nai Village, Wiang Pa Pao District, Chiang Rai province. The project begins with the question “Can art change society ?”
PALALAIYAKA LAND represents the model of sustainable community in the form of art through the Karen wisdom that says "Or Tee Ger Tor Tee Aorgor Gertor Gor" (Drink water, save water, Eat from the forest, preserve the forest)
This art exhibition therefore creates an art discussion forum in the area that culture and nature are one whole unit, which cannot be separated in the perspectives of the Karen community. Therefore, art and nature can be united into one in order to drive social change by shared resource (Forest Conservation Fund)
