Worship Objects, Symbols of Holiness in the Context of Roadside Culture
By Preecha Noulnim
Inspired by the elephant statues offered to Pu Kham Hua Chang Shrine on the side of Mittaphap Road in Khon Kaen Province, the visual art exhibition is a reflection of the deep-rooted coexistence of Buddhism, Brahmanism, and Mysticism in Thai society. The artist uses shapes, symbols, and patterns of offering arrangements and ceremony to illustrate how the discourse of votive offerings create a sacred space that induces both the belief and fear of inexplicable supernatural phenomena.
