Stand for Democracy in Myanmar
By SEA Junction and Human Rights Art Initiative
The exhibition “Stand for Democracy in Myanmar” presents thirteen artworks elaborating images of key moments during the Myanmar Spring Revolution, which started in opposition to the coup d'état staged by the military led by General Min Aung Hlaing on 1 February 2021.
The artworks by Argentine artist Marcelo Brodsky aestheticize snapshots from the protests in a way that evocates people’s emotions, courage and commitment to return democracy at all costs. The exhibition thus leverages visual art to raise public awareness of and to express solidarity with the cause of the civil movement in Myanmar and their struggle for freedom, democracy and human rights. The exhibition is organized by SEA Junction and Human Rights Art Initiative, with the support of Taiwan Foundation for Democracy and Asia Democracy Network. It will be launched with an event on 26 April 2022 at the exhibition space, where the artist will be joined by other speakers to discuss the importance of mobilizing for democracy through a medium of art.
