UNODC Awareness Raising Event on Online Scam, Phishing, and Identity Theft
By Thaiconsent ( NGO media organization )
The increased digitalization of society, compounded by the COVID-19 outbreak, has contributed to a rapid increase in online scams, phishing, and identity theft cases in the Southeast Asia region. In 2022, the Global Identity & Fraud Report revealed that one in four consumers became victims of online scams in Southeast Asia. Purchasing, chatting online, connecting to a public WiFi network, or even just clicking an email attachment can make online users a possible target of online scams.
In response to this, United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) has launched a regional campaign called KnowScam that focuses on localizing and raising awareness of online scams, phishing, and identity theft and prevention tactics among individuals in the Southeast Asian region
