About Exhibition
Inevitably, we have faced existence, routine, people, and places. They could be understandable and somehow incomprehensible. The interpretation of surroundings depends on one’s experiences. So that is one of the reasons why we should learn how to live blissfully and appreciate the meaning of life.
Pichate Youngpob (1995, Thailand), painter and mixed-media artist, was born and raised among nature in suburban Bangkok. He has documented his everyday life by observation and coincidence through semi-abstract to abstract impressionism works. He assembled familiar art mediums and minor stuff from his studio and utilized different features as a trial in life. He melodically combined layers, hues, textures, and his distinct brushstrokes without precision or theory. The works showcase the state of being unpretentious, independent, and neutral. He emphasizes an uncomplicated narrative of movement in life so that it can be accessible with ease.
‘Everyday Life’ is an event that evokes emotion, imagination, and consciousness of the social environment. To visually and intrinsically recognize the beauty and value in ordinary landscapes and architectures by collecting experiences and bits of knowledge. An attempt to be mindful of neighborhood and community, or even culture and beliefs, because these are foundations to compose and convey the creative intuition of human beings, that is to say, it is an intense desire for simplicity that appears in our everyday life.
About Artist
Pichate Youngpob (Bangkok, 1995) is a Thai mixed-media artist and painter who lives and works in the suburb of Bangkok. He studied Thai art until he graduated with a master's degree at Silpakorn University. His journey began with mixed-media art by assembling found objects and vintage collectibles to give them new narratives, values, and meanings. It is a reminiscence of youth when he was making his toys.
The artist has exhibited his artwork in numerous exhibitions, such as The 64th National Exhibition of Art, The National Gallery, Bangkok (2018), Young Artist Talent #10, Ratchadamnoen Contemporary Art Centre, Bangkok (2019), Phenomenon of Life by Poysien Group, ICONSIAM Department Store (2021), Soulciety, Old Town Gallery, Bangkok (2022), Storytelling, Ardel Gallery of Modern Art, Bangkok (2024), Faces of Thailand: A Portrait Story, Wonder by WJ, Singapore (2024), and his solo exhibition SIMPLICITY at Qubism Art Space, Nakhon Pathom (2024).
Artist Statement
Pichate has the intuition to create art without any limitation of the educational frameworks, thoughts, techniques, rules, and artistic mediums. Eventually, he got a degree and gave himself a break. He had a change of heart and decided to experiment with painting. His appreciation of objects resulted in 2-dimensional painting with the perspective and approach of 3-dimensional objects. Every piece has an impressive characteristic of either or both textured and layered surfaces, rhythmic brushstrokes and distinctive movement also provide a tangible sentiment. All of which is a tribute to his late mixed-media era, i.e., the state of nostalgia.
The conversation of experiences along the way through semi-abstract to abstract impressionism and contemporary art is similar to a diary of being a full-time artist. He utilizes the uncomplicated dialogue to reflect on the moment. Growth and comprehension of emotion, idea, and determination, let him proficiently improvise. He learns to allow the crystallization of experiences and ideas. He declared that we do not need to understand it right away, it takes time, we need to embrace it. Opinions will vary depending on individuals, each own imagination and perception.
