Art behind Bars

By Healthy Prison Project with the support of Thai Health Promotion Foundation

Art Behind Bars Exhibition is part of the Healthy Prison Project supported by the Thai Health Promotion Foundation. The Healthy Prison Project has been working in collaboration with 7 Thai correctional facilities to encourage inmates to participate in artwork ranging from painting, sewing, weaving, wire bending, shadow puppet carving, stone artwork  to paper mache. Art objects displayed at the exhibition  stem from desperation, sadness, depression as well as the need for understanding, forgiving and connecting to the outside world. Through their artwork, the inmates experience personal restoration and inspiration for a new beginning. This transformation paves the way for the inmates, after the release, to become upstanding citizen members of the society
