Dialogue with the Father
Organised by Bangkok Art and Culture Centre with For What Theatre and Miss Theatre
“Death is ordinary, but what comes before it is not. What matters is understanding why we breathe.” – Nam Pueng Phrai (1980)
Dialogue with the Father explores the purpose of life through the lens of death, drawing inspiration from Wat Wanlayangkoon, a renowned Thai writer and political activist. This performance is part of the “Dialogue with the Master” series, where directors Wichaya Artamat and Patipon (Miss Oat) delve into the lives and perspectives of master artists.
The piece builds on the directors’ previous work, Just Away, which premiered at the 2023 Bangkok Theatre Festival. This new documentary-style play weaves together Wat’s story through the memories of his three children: Wana, Wasu, and Wajana Wanlayangkoon. Each offers a unique perspective on their father’s legacy, creating a deeply personal narrative that goes beyond mere biography.
Dialogue with the Father is not just a reflection on Wat’s life but a meditation on the emotions and experiences of his children, who must carry the weight of his legacy. The performance invites the audience to engage in a profound dialogue about the enduring impact of those who leave us too soon and unjustly.
