Tales of the village of light

Exhibition: “Tales of the Village of Light”

“Tales of the Village of Light” shares the heartfelt impressions of both blind and sighted individuals who visited Phra Bat Huai Tom village—a place where the Karen people live simply, guided by mindfulness and perseverance, and see the world through hearts filled with joy and hope.

Blind visitors to the village shared their experiences, which were then interpreted and brought to life by fellow artists, architects, writers, and designers. These collaborations have inspired a collection of artworks inviting everyone to connect and engage with the stories.

The exhibition is presented by various artists and the Thailand Association of the Blind. Together, they hope that what blind individuals “see” with their hearts will offer visitors new perspectives, inspiration, and a deeper appreciation for the diverse people who help make our society vibrant, beautiful, and resilient.

The exhibition is divided into three zones: a printmaking gallery, a short video section, and a showcase of works by artists. Rotating activities include a printmaking workshop supported by Cloud Press Printmaking Centre, a Kohrinka flower arrangement workshop by Backyard Blooming, a Meet and Greet session with “Tales of the Village of Light” children’s book author Ploy Sarocha Kittisiriphan from PaperyBflyBook House, and the “HumanClusive’s Tour: The Hidden Light experience—an activity where sighted participants are blindfolded to experience the exhibition as a blind person would, supported by HumanClusive.

This exhibition is part of the “Tales of the Village of Light” project, with major support from the Contemporary Art Promotion Fund, Ministry of Culture.

The project aims to share the beauty and meaning of a simple yet profound way of life in Phra Bat Huai Tom. It seeks to inspire urban dwellers living amid haste and chaos, while also supporting blind individuals in expressing their artistic potential and accessing art experiences equally.
