Public Program Exhibition Talk: LOCAL MYTHS: The Intrinsic Aesthetic
Speaker: Wimonsiri Boonsom and Jirawat Boonsom
This public program invites everyone to explore the “Local Narrative” hidden within the exhibition Local Myths: The Intrinsic Aesthetic, which presents contemporary artworks reinterpreted from local narratives, legends, histories, and beliefs in diverse forms. These works not only reflect the beauty of cultural roots but also reveal the complexity of history, collective memory, and what has been concealed or forgotten. The talk will encourage audiences to interpret and exchange perspectives, emphasizing that myths and beliefs are not merely elusive or enigmatic, but rather a force that generates new meanings and beauty in the world of art, while also reflecting how people perceive their identities, histories, and communities today.
Joining the conversation are Wimonsiri Siriboonsom and Jirawat Boonsom from the program Lok Wiwat, two contemporary storytellers who will lead the discussion. They will expand on ideas drawn from the artworks in the exhibition, raise thought-provoking questions, and invite participants to decode local myths, legends, and beliefs—unveiling another dimension of the “The Intrinsic Aesthetic.”
