“Visual Biography II: Daily Ordinary” is an illustration exhibition, a collaboration between Bangkok Art and Culture Centre and Bangkok Illustration Fair (BKKIF). The exhibition is an extension of the Bangkok Illustration Fair 2024, which was held from December 5–8 2024, at CentralwOrld Live, 8th floor, CentralwOrld.
As a “Reviewer”, the Exhibition Department of the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre has selected eight illustrators to participate in this group exhibition. Now in its second year, the exhibition aims to serve as a platform that connects illustrators, artists, creatives, and those with a shared interest—providing opportunities for exchange, learning, and the development of creative work for a wider audience. This year’s exhibition is presented under the theme “Daily Ordinary.”
The theme of “Daily Ordinary” is expressed through artworks that portray the simplicity of everyday life from the artists’ perspective. These are stories often overlooked—things considered mundane, ordinary objects seen frequently that no longer draw attention due to their familiarity, or items passed by every day without a second thought. These elements can serve as captivating sources of inspiration for artists and illustrators to craft inspiring artworks. The exhibition is not limited to illustration alone, but embraces a variety of artistic expressions.
“Visual Biography” is an exhibition that showcases illustrations and artworks by artists who reflect on the creative life through personal experience, values, beliefs, culture, family, and society. These elements form the basis of a personal archive—an artist’s history of memory.
The exhibition invites viewers to journey into diverse narratives, perspectives, and lived experiences, illuminating the role of illustration as a powerful tool for preserving memory and documenting the intellectual and emotional histories of individuals.
Through this approach, the exhibition aims to spark dialogue between viewers and the works, encouraging reflections on the essence of human life across different social contexts. It also seeks to foster intellectual engagement with the personal experiences of the eight participating artists, offering space for empathy, connection, and deeper understanding.
