In-Kind Supporter Parbpim Printing

Bangkok Art and Culture Centre, in collaboration with Vacilando Bookshop, is pleased to present the Hong Kong Photo Zine & Photobook Dummy Award exhibition, which was previously held at Vacilando Bookshop in 2022.

In this exhibition, the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre (BACC) with Vacilando Bookshop to bring selected photobooks and photozines, from the 2025 competition, which will continue to be displayed on the 6th floor, the Friends of bacc room. An open library will also be opened here for everyone to come and read together from November 4-16, 2025. The touring exhibition will be held on Wednesday, November 5 and Wednesday, November 12, and a discussion will be held on Sunday, November 16, 2025.

The books on display are dummies, or pre-production sample books, that artists or creators have created as close to their own desires as possible and have not yet been officially distributed. Artists use these dummies to experiment with the production process, carry them around for others to comment on the stories or layouts, and try submitting them to international competitions and exhibiting them in reading communities, bookstores, libraries, or international photography festivals that travel throughout the year to various countries around the world.

The Hong Kong Photobook Dummy Award is one of the highlights of the Hong Kong Photobook Festival, organised by Lumenvisum. The festival and competition aims to support emerging artists and provide them with opportunities to showcase their work internationally. This year, talented photographers, artists and creatives from all over the world submitted their photobook dummy works, with a total of 127 works from over 30 countries selected as finalists for 29 works across three categories: the Photobook Dummy Award, the Photozine Award – Student Category and the Photozine Award – Public Category.

The new “Photozine Award” category, launched this year, aims to encourage more people, especially young people, to get involved in the photozine creation and distribution sector. The Photozine Award is divided into two categories: General and Student. The Student category, in particular, is open to submissions from students from around the world, with 70 submissions accepted and no more than 15 finalists selected.
