HABITUS II
Artist: Nudsupang Puthaikul
Selected by: Special project’s BACC pop⋅up
Principal Supporter: Seacon Development Co., Ltd.
Ideas and inspiration come from the way of life, society, and local culture of North Thailand, which are an important part of life and have been passed down for a long time. The accumulation of this culture is like sediment that has been accumulated, stored sequentially in memory. Each moment has a story, and everything is filled with powerful impressions. I believe that life is abundance and wonder. Everything around us is connected as one. Our experiences are history woven into an irreplaceable poem.
Inspired by the creation of 2D and 3D artworks, the artworks presented here do not attempt to present a coherent whole. Instead, they embody chaos, fluidity, stability, softness, and fragility. This confluence of differences is a blend and overlap between traditional and modern cultures. This collection of works is like an archaeological discovery, a result of the overlapping, accumulated, and recorded collection of cultural artifacts from the past to the present. It creates abstract forms that embody a unique and distinctive identity, allowing us to understand its beauty through imagination.
The renowned French philosopher and social scientist Pierre Bourdieu described habitus as a system that encompasses the perceptions, thoughts, beliefs, and tastes within each individual. It influences our understanding of the outside world. This is shaped by and interacts with the things around us, such as our family upbringing, environment, society, and culture. This theory is reflected in Miss. Nudsupang artwork.
This collection of works allows viewers to see and experience the identity of Habitus artists, which goes beyond mere personal values. It expresses the memories and culture of the entire community, which have shaped the artist’s identity. Furthermore, this exhibition reflects how lifestyles, society, culture, and the environment around us influence us, and we are also the creators of our environment. This leads to an understanding of diverse and different cultures, prompting viewers to ponder and question what kind of people we are, what kind of people we want to be, and what kind of lifestyle, society, and culture we want to create in the future.
