SAÑÑĀDHAMMA

By Buddhist Art, Mae Fah Luang University

SAÑÑĀDHAMMA emerges from the coalescence of two linguistic roots: “Sañña” (Perception, or The Recognition of Signs) and “Dhamma” (The Ultimate Truth of Nature and Its Teachings). This exhibition is not solely a display of art objects, but a realm exploring the liminal space between “Symbolic Form” and “Abstraction.” It reflects the artists’ collective intent to manifest the abstract essence of Dhamma through the tangible language of art.

The participating artists have transmuted their spiritual pursuits and individual interpretations of Buddhist philosophy into contemporary artistic expressions. The interweaving of “Sign” and “Significance” through diverse lines, colors, forms, and techniques— is an endeavor to synthesize the essence of Dhamma into tangible reality. This process invites viewers to transcend mere visual aesthetics and enter a space of contemplation and awakening.

Each artwork functions as a mirror reflecting truth through the artist’s unique perspective, aiming to ignite “Phutthi Panya” (Intellectual Wisdom) within the observer. It offers a novel experience of perceiving the truths of nature hidden within every detail. “SAÑÑĀDHAMMA” thus affirms that Dhamma does not exist limited to ancient inscriptions; it can be decoded, touched, and perceived through the imagination and state of mind arising in the present moment.
