The art world is often viewed as inaccessible, as the general public is often considered an outsider, whether by those within it or by themselves. Throughout history, art has been linked to the upper class and the wealthy, who have assumed the roles of collectors and patrons.
However, in the present day, there’s a growing emphasis on artworks regarding social issues directly linked to society and the general public who are in this ecosystem as audiences.
Art is becoming more inclusive. It is shifting from being an individual pursuit to a collective one, welcoming a wider range of audiences. This positions art in a way that can address the question of its purpose and significance.
RELATABLE, a group exhibition curated by Pran Limchuenjai, showcases the perspectives and skills of 3 audiences, Beam – Tawan Panusittikorn, Caesar – Wariskit Akaradaycharat, and Muang – Vasu Sirivanich, each contributing to the creation of their own art practices. Their works portray how they convey their own narratives, which include (1) Intra-family relationships, (2) life reflection in the current world, and (3) stereotypes of LGBTQ+, into artworks of their own.
