Orfeo ed Euridice/Don Juan

This August, Bangkok Youth Opera presents a radical production of Gluck’s masterpiece ORFEO ED EURIDICE and DON JUAN

Darren Royston’s thrilling staging transports Orpheus across time and dimensions on his odyssey to bring back his beloved Eurydice with the condition that he never glance at her until they are back into the world of the living.

Paired with Gluck’s equally stunning reform ballet DON JUAN that directly precedes the premiere of Orfeo in 1762. A work about desire and passion that ignores every consequences until there are no warnings left, here we get to see “love” in all its forms, from Orpheus’s undying loyalty to the insatiable libido of Don Juan.

Jorn Yasavudhi makes his opera conducting debut leading the BYO singers, chorus and orchestra. He also presents a new performing edition based on Gluck’s original version while also carefully incorporating elements from his later revisions.

Deception, passion, and chaos: Donizetti’s comic masterpiece DON PASQUALE has them all!

Bangkok Youth Opera presents a long-overdue Thailand premiere of this delightful comic opera. Darren Royston, who has staged the piece to critical acclaim in the UK, has transported the action from 19th-century Rome to modern-day Bangkok, and Don Pasquale to a middle-aged Chinese man trying to teach his game-addicted nephew, Ernesto, a lesson in what is sure to be an evening of gut-wrenching laughter!

Leading the cast and orchestra, Mickey Wongsathapornpat needs no introduction. He is one of Thailand’s leading conductors of opera, once again returning to Donizetti after his highly praised reading of L’Elisir d’Amore in 2020. Mickey is guaranteed to give a tour-de-force performance.
