BACC Introduces ‘Art Around Us’
Learning Creator Lab #2 Project by Kru Som – Wipavee Patoompong
Transforming Everyday Art into Spaces for Learning, Growth, and Family Connection

Education Department of Bangkok Art and Culture Centre (BACC) and Bangkok Climate Action Week (BKKCAW) invite children, families, and caregivers to discover new perspectives on ‘art’ through Art Around Us, a creative art programme for children and families by Wipavee Patoompong (Kru Som), a Learning Process Designer and facilitator of Learning Creators Lab #2: Creative Learning Program. With more than 20 years of experience in dance, movement, and arts-based education, Kru Som has developed a learning approach that brings together Movement, Music, Play, Storytelling, and Multisensory Learning. She sees ‘art’ as a ‘language’ that creates space for children to express themselves, experiment, ask questions, and discover through their own experiences. At the same time, adults are encouraged to learn how to observe, listen, and support children rather than simply providing the answers.

Art Around Us consists of three interconnected learning experiences: Planting Creativity, a workshop for parents and caregivers; Growing Together, a workshop for children and families; and Bloom: Creative Creatures, an art workshop for children.

The three experiences were developed collaboratively with creative practitioners from diverse disciplines, including Dance for All Thailand, Khing Kaan Bai, Music Garden Studio, and other participating artists and creators. Together, they bring learning experiences to life through art, movement, music, play, storytelling, as well as everyday objects, reusable and recycled materials.

Through these processes, Art Around Us explores how art can foster meaningful connections between children and adults, while transforming the things around us into spaces for creativity, discovery, and shared learning.

WORKSHOP 1 | PLANTING CREATIVITY: PARENT WORKSHOP
Wait • Listen • Understand • Create Space for Creativity to Grow

How can we communicate with children while giving them the space, freedom, and confidence to think, experiment, and be themselves?

Planting Creativity invites adults to explore how we look, listen, wait, and communicate with children—shifting from being the ones who provide all the answers to becoming companions who learn alongside them. Participants will engage through play, movement, sound, music, songs, natural materials, everyday objects, and reused materials, discovering how simple things can stimulate children’s senses, imagination, thinking, decision-making, and problem-solving skills. They will also experience for themselves what it feels like to have no single “right answer”—to make choices, explore, change their minds, and try again.

This workshop is more than simply an “activity to do with your child.” It offers parents and caregivers practical tools for recognising when to invite, when to help, when to wait, and when to step back, allowing children to take the lead in their own discoveries.

Join four specialists—Kru Som, Kru Por, Kru Igg, and Kru Michela—and discover that when accompanying a child on their journey, we do not always have to lead the way. Sometimes, we can simply walk alongside, wait, listen, and discover together.

Bringing your child with you

If you need to bring your child to the workshop, a designated area outside the meeting room will be available for children to play while parents/caregivers participate in the workshop. Please arrange for a caregiver to supervise the child, as this area is outside the responsibility of the organising team. The organising team will not be responsible for any accidents or incidents that may occur in the area outside the meeting room.

WORKSHOP 2 | GROWING TOGETHER: PARENT–CHILD WORKSHOP
Connecting Through Body, Art, and Stories
A Workshop for Children and Parents/Caregivers

Children may not always be ready to tell us everything through words, and direct questions are not always the doorway through which they feel comfortable opening up.

Growing Together invites parents and children to reconnect and communicate through the body, movement, art, music, and stories—turning these creative forms into a shared space where thoughts and feelings can emerge naturally. Families will explore movement with Kru Som, create art using cardboard with Kru Michela, make music with Kru Ann from TING-A-TONG, and explore puppet theatre using everyday materials with TA-LENT SHOW. Through rhythm, sound, movement, characters, puppets, and stories, children can express their inner worlds without having to speak directly. This can create a sense of safety and encourage them to open up, while giving parents the opportunity to listen, observe, and discover new aspects of their children.

Some things may not need to be asked directly. Some feelings may not need to be explained in words. Yet we can still see, listen, and understand one another.

WORKSHOP 3 | BLOOM: CREATIVE CREATURES – MULTISENSORY WORLD OF DISCOVERY
Stepping into a New World and Discovering New Possibilities Within
A Hands-On Creative Workshop for Children

Saturday–Sunday, 23–24 January 2027 | Onsite
Morning session: 10.30 – 12.00 hrs.
Afternoon session: 14.00 – 15.30 hrs.
Venue: Hall, L Floor

Bloom: Creative Creatures opens up a multisensory learning experience through play, inviting children—like newly discovered creatures—to embark on an adventure into a “magical land” created through their own choices, play, and imagination.

Children become explorers, players, storytellers, and co-creators of a new world. Over 90 minutes, they will journey through body and movement, art, music, and theatre with Poon Poon Theatre Company, alongside Light & Sound experiences and an Immersive Art Installation at the heart of the space. Light, sound, objects, artists, performers, and teachers become companions along the way, opening doors for children to discover possibilities on their own.

Because when the world of play is open enough, children may discover more than new things around them. They may also discover new aspects of themselves, new roles, and new possibilities within.

Participation Guidelines
– Art Around Us is suitable for children aged 4 – 12 years.
– All activities are free of charge, with a **THB 300 deposit required per workshop.
– The deposit will be refunded on the day of the activity.
(**The deposit is non-refundable in the event of non-attendance and will instead be contributed to activities organised by Dance for All Thailand.)
– Participants do not need to attend all three workshops.
(**However, Workshop 1 consists of two sessions and participants are required to attend both.)
– All activities are conducted in Thai.
– Registration closes once the maximum number of participants has been reached.
– Registered participants must confirm their participation via email by the specified deadline.
