By Autonomous non-profit organization for promoting concert activities “Russian seasons”
On November 17-29, 2026, as part of the international project of the Government of the Russian Federation and the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation “Russian Seasons” in the Kingdom of Thailand, the Bangkok Art and Culture Center hosts an exhibition of scarves-paintings by designer Nina Ruchkina “Silk Map of Russia”.
This unique project suggests to have a look at the map of Russia from an unusual perspective – through the cultural codes of the regions depicted on the canvases of silk scarves. The richness of Russian culture is vividly reflected in the images that unite peoples, artistic traditions and local customs. An appeal to the visual language of the scarf, one of the main national symbols of Russia, allows us to build a cultural map in which the geographical point and the distinctive character of the place are inextricably linked. Coming together in the context of different eras, they demonstrate the enormous inner strength of a multinational, multi-religious country.
Nina Ruchkina, the designer and inspirer of the exhibition, speaking in September 2026 at the XII St. Petersburg International Forum of United Cultures, concluded: “Our large-scale exhibitions of scarves-paintings are both a presentation of the cultural map of Russia and the embodiment of “silk diplomacy”, which non-verbally, emotionally translates meaningful ideas through art and beauty, making you fall in love with it without words.”
The canvases of the exhibition invite viewers to visually get acquainted with the regions of Russia embodied in the design of scarves-paintings: folk arts and crafts, masterpieces of art, spiritual symbols and distinctive landscapes. Among the works are the famous “Gzhel“, the legendary “St. Basil’s Cathedral”, the Buddhist “Ivolginsky Datsan” and other works. Professional artists, as well as art historians and regional consultants participated in the development and creation of the exhibits. Each work is provided with a description, revealing details about the plot and the region.
The exhibition is complemented by the atmospheric fairy tale film “The Legend of the Scarf” (0+), created using Artificial Intelligence to immerse into the world of magic against the backdrop of breathtaking panoramas of Russia.
The author of the exhibition is designer Nina Ruchkina, the creator of the accessory brand “Trendy Russians”
The author of the descriptions is Anastasia Astrakhantseva
The presented exposition is part of the large-scale exhibition project “Trendy Russians”, which was implemented with the support of the Presidential Foundation for Cultural Initiatives (RF).
